The show's origin.....
Duncan Chisholm was a member of Gospel Theatre Productions from the very first season of "According To John". Prior to accepting Jesus as his Saviour, he had been a bike gang leader......by his own admission, a most unsavoury character!
He came to the Lord under extraordinary circumstances and writer Ros Standley felt led to write a contemporary musical about his conversion.

About the show.....
Ros shared her desire to write "Leo" as far back as 1974. G.T.P. Musical Director Lindsay Paterson started to arrange the music for the entire show but was overwhelmed due to the 'part-time / after-hours' nature of the company. Ros enlisted the help of G.T.P. band member Steven Jones; Steve tackled the slower, ballad numbers while Lindsay did the rock songs........hence the "Leo" music displayed a pleasing mix of arranging styles.

A pivotal dream sequence (which leads the title character to re examine his life) required a prerecorded sound track. This was arranged and produced by Lindsay using mainly G.T.P. musicians at the old Bruce Adderly Sound Studios in West Melbourne about a month or two prior to the show openning.

"Leo" premiered in mid 1977 at the Footscray-Yarraville High School hall in Kingsville and was preformed on and off until at least 1984, when tha score rewas reworked by Christopher Wilson.

Gospel Theatre musicians......
Throughout the history of the company, we were indeed fortunate to have many talented musicians work with us. In 1975, some of them, including Lindsay Paterson, came together to form the Christian rock band "Adelphos".
